Treasures 4 Teachers – FREE Pop-Up Adventure Playground

This is an exciting event. I am doing a workshop on loose parts for the Celebrate the Young Child Conference and was wondering if there is any way I could get some pictures and or video from the event. I am working that day or I would come and take them myself. I will gladly promote the event so people look forward to it next year????

Let’s get playful! This free community event invites families to experience a unique, open-ended, play-based experience that allows children’s creativity and ingenuity to soar. Treasures 4 Teachers, in partnership with VSAEYC, will hold the first “Pop-Up Adventure Playground” event on December 3rd at Summit School of Ahwatukee.

A Pop-Up Adventure Playground provides an extensive supply of “loose parts” which are materials that can be combined, moved, carried, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with others like large boxes, cardboard tubes, fabric, yarn, rocks, sticks, boxes, tires, markers, tape, and so, so much more. It is an opportunity for NAEYC accredited schools to make connections to their local community, building positive relationships with families.

Pop-Up Adventure Playgrounds:
December 3 SUMMIT SCHOOL, Ahwatukee 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
February 4 PINNACLE PRESBYTERIAN PRESCHOOL, Scottsdale 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
April 22 YOUR NAEYC ACCREDITED SCHOOL: Week of the Young Child

Seven-year-olds Anna and Louis have just left a morning meeting where they explored the questions:
“Who is an engineer, and what does an engineer do?”

Young Children describes how STEM – Community Based Engineering (CBE) was used by a class of 24 second grade students in a diverse urban school in Boston. Through this powerful project approach, lessons in math, science and engineering are taught within the context of solving real problems within the school community. The children realize engineering can empower them to change their lives and help their community. READ MORE – YOUNG CHILDREN VOL. 71 NO. 5

BOYS and GIRLS LEARN DIFFERENTLY

The Gurian Institute March 4, 2017

Join KATEY MCPHERSON, Executive Director of the Gurian Institute, as we examine the differences in brain development of boys and girls. In our morning session, find out what we can do as educators to change our own behaviors and school environments in supporting the learning of all children. In our afternoon session, we will review recent studies connecting delayed cognitive development with extended exposure to electronic media. As an inescapable reality of modern childhood, American children spend a whopping seven hours a day in front of electronic media. That is more time engaging with the electronic world than with school, friends or adult mentors. Find out how to encourage parents in creating a family media plan. (5 Certified PD Hrs)

VSAEYC members can attend this workshop on scholarship. FREE SEATS are limited so act now. LEARN MORE and REGISTER.
